Food Adventure: Rustic Mornings by Isabelo, 4 Years Later

Since the girlfriend is just fairly new here in Manila, I thought I’d take her on a few food adventures, just to give her a feel of what the Metro has to offer. Lucky for me, I live in a city that’s considered as one of the “food capitals of Manila” (I made that up).

I’m not an expert on this subject as while I am as in love with food as I am with matte lipsticks, I haven’t really been on a lot of food adventures because 1) a lot of these places are remote (not really as in remote but you get my point) ones that many PUVs don’t traverse at, 2) I don’t have a car which is kind of a big factor because #1, and 3) I’m probably just really maarte and don’t want to be commuting and walking under the extreme heat of the PH or just too stingy to be spending on a cab/Grab/Uber. LOL.

Well whatever the reason is, the honest truth is that I just haven’t tried that many food establishments here in Manila, or even here in Marikina. But, I did try this one particular restaurant situated in the heart of the city — Sta. Elena (more commonly known as Marikina Bayan) — that’s actually the “day counterpart” of the Isabelo Garden Restaurants.

And I remember writing about this restaurant on my old blog so I still know how I felt about it that time.

Rustic Mornings by Isabelo is a breakfast place that offers a variety of, well, breakfast food — so breakfast all day, y’all (how many times can you use the word breakfast in one sentence?). The first and last time that I was there was back in 2013, but I did get to try it more than once. I thought about trying it again and taking the girlfriend here just to show her how amazing and cozy the place is.

Rustic Mornings is very true to its name as it does indeed give that vintage and rustic vibe. I mean, come on, just look at the photos that I took then! My first thought, actually, was how much I wanted to drag my bed and just live there. Any spot would be fine by me.

While the interior was really bringing it, the food was not at all at par with the ambiance.

They’re not cheap so you would be expecting more for the price point. Sadly, it was just a mere disappointment. Again, this was 4 years ago so I don’t know if anything has changed over the years. One thing’s for sure though, their prices are still steep — they became even more expensive as I’m checking their updated menu now and comparing them to the one I took a photo of in 2013.

So why am I posting it again, you ask? I don’t know either, really. LOL, nah. This is just me, thinking out loud, contemplating as to whether or not I should take my chances again and take the girlfriend here.

Rustic Mornings is a perfect date spot basing solely on the coziness of the place but the food is just meh so maybe just take her here for coffee, then?

If you have recently been here, tell me if they’ve improved their food or if I should just forget about it and just go dine somewhere else — preferably a cheaper alternative?

    1. Tell me about it! I just really am hoping that their food is better now 🙂 And yes, I understand. I would love to try restaurants at Canada too, but you know. We can’t all be rich. Hahaha
